HMJ and Company was founded by James (Jay) Jacobs, an experienced executive with extensive public and private company experience in the energy industry.  Mr. Jacobs brings ~20 years of domestic and international energy and corporate finance expertise having served as the CFO of two public companies, Yuma Energy, Inc. (NYSE American: YUMA) and Houston American Energy (NYSE American: HUSA), as a Senior Vice President of investment banking at Sanders Morris Harris, as well as the experience he gained in private equity and mezzanine finance while working at Duke Capital Partners.  Mr. Jacobs has acted as both a principal investor, advisor, banker and corporate executive which gives him unique insight in serving his clients.   

Mr. Jacobs brings a diverse skill set and a background of solving complex problems and working through tough situations to improve company performance. During his career, Mr. Jacobs has managed all aspects of running a company, including: operations, financial planning and budgeting, SEC reporting, accounting, audit, deal evaluation and due diligence, deal origination, contract negotiation, acquisition implementation, board communication, AIP and LTI program development, hedging, insurance, and corporate tax compliance.  In addition, he has been involved in the management and restructuring of distressed businesses, lead technical and operational initiatives and managed complex financial and accounting matters.   

In his career Mr. Jacobs has been involved in transactions totaling over $3.5 billion. His transaction experience includes M&A, equity financings (IPOs, PIPEs, Registered Directs, ATMs, Convertible Preferred and Private Placement transactions), reverse mergers, debt placement, sell-side (both as an advisor and principal), joint ventures, fairness opinions and valuation work.  

Mr. Jacobs formed HMJ and Company because he wanted to start a company that was guided by the principles of his grandfathers whose initials are in our name.  Both of Mr. Jacobs grandfathers served in WWII and their principles of integrity, fair dealings, work ethic and a commitment to community shape how we treat our clients.
